Popular Brooklyn drill rappers Sheff G and Sleepy Hallow have been indicted on criminal conspiracy charges along with 30 other alleged members of the 8 Trey Crips and 9 Ways gangs. Kings County District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced the 140-count indictment, which includes a charge of conspiracy to commit murder, this afternoon (Tuesday, May 16).

“I’m confident that today’s successful takedown will have a positive impact on public safety across several Brooklyn communities as we enter the summer months,” Gonzalez said in a press release. “The senseless gun violence, allegedly committed by these defendants, terrorized our neighbors for years and left more than a dozen people with serious injuries. It is distressing to know that some of the violence was allegedly fueled by a young man [(Sheff G)] who used money he made from a successful music career to allegedly pay for and encourage acts of violence.”

The DA’s office alleges that Sheff G (legal name Michael Williams) gave other 8 Trey members expensive jewelry and treated them to “lavish” meals in exchange for acts of violence committed against rival gangs in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Flatbush, during a period when he himself resided in Short Hills, New Jersey. He allegedly treated Sleepy Hallow (legal name Tegan Chambers) and others to one such dinner at a Manhattan steakhouse to celebrate the “most egregious” of these crimes: an October 21, 2020 drive-by shooting that took the life of 23-year-old Theodore Senior and injured five other alleged members of the Folk Nation gang. Williams and his sister are “charged with being part of the conspiracy to commit murder, for this incident and others,” the statement reads.

These include “27 incidents of violence and criminal activity, including 12 shootings with 13 victims,” three of whom were allegedly innocent bystanders. “Approximately 37 different firearms were used or possessed by the defendants and 19 firearms were recovered during the course of the investigation,” the statement continues. The defendants are variously indicted on counts of second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder, second-degree conspiracy, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, first-degree assault, first-degree attempted assault, second-degree kidnapping, first-degree gang assault, first-degree attempted gang assault, second-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, and “related charges.”

The FADER has reached out to a representative of Williams’ and Chambers’ label, RCA Records, for further comment. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information arises.
