Music licensing platform, WavMaker, has launched with $5 million in seed funding. The platform is designed to help video creators quickly find the perfect song for any project from a fresh, high-quality catalog that is cleared for commercial use, the company announced Wednesday.
WavMaker is a project of seasoned music industry experts Matt Arcaini as CEO, Mark Stuart as Director of Label Services, and Caleb Grimm as Director of Marketing. The founders have between them over 50 combined years in the music business, multiple Grammy wins and nominations, and nearly 20 million social media followers.
“As a musician and creator myself, I understand the constant struggle to find affordable, quality music for video content,” Arcaini says, explaining why the team decided to make the platform.
“We created WavMaker to offer creators and musicians a mutually beneficial and frustration-free solution. Our platform frees creators from worrying about acquiring high-quality music and allows them to focus on producing incredible content. Musicians have a new outlet for their music. It’s a win-win for all.”
Vicky Patel, a principal at the Nashville label Wavy Records and co-founder of Monarch Media, led the $5 million seed funding round. Patel has 20 years of Silicon Valley experience in media and technology to complement WavMaker’s goals.
“Our team has put tremendous care into building an intuitive user interface that makes finding and acquiring high-quality music easier than ever,” said Jack Whitis, WavMaker’s CTO. “Our platform abstracts away the complexity of music licensing and makes finding the right song part of the creative process.”
With a free WavMaker account, users can browse the entire music library and download preview audio files to test in projects. A paid subscription provides unlimited access to music for commercial use. New music continuously enters the catalog.
WavMaker aims to position itself as a solution to common pain points for video creators licensing music, such as inconsistent or stagnant libraries, high costs, and confusing licensing structures. The founders say the platform allows creators to focus on producing content without worrying about acquiring quality music while providing musicians with a new outlet.
The venture was created based on the founders’ first-hand experiences as creators struggling to find suitable music for video projects. Their goal is to remove traditional headaches around music licensing through WavMaker’s intuitive interface and unlimited access model.
WavMaker’s seed funding will serve to expand the platform’s capabilities further, hire staff, and increase customer outreach efforts as the company aims to build out its offering for video creators across industries.
