Taylor Swift is an artist that inspires serious devotion from her fans. In the last month alone, an untitled nonfiction book was preordered into bestseller status by Swifties who incorrectly thought it to be a Taylor Swift memoir (it was, in fact, a photo book from the Korean pop band BTS) and Swift herself was the subject of an open letter campaign against a recent rumored romantic entanglement. It’s rare that you get any kind of self-aware displays of pop star standom, but we got one yesterday from TikTok user @throatgoatnancyreagan.
Not content to simply have a fantastic username, @throatgoatnancyreagan went further with a very specific tribute to Taylor Swift: eating nine hotdogs at a recent stop on her “Eras” tour, one for every “era” of Taylor Swift. It’s all in the video below — I can’t detect any sort of selective editing, though I suppose it’s possible that TGNR ate only a handful of hot dogs slowly throughout the night and pretended to have eaten nine. Still, the display is a pitch-perfect send-up/embrace of fandom in 2023: ridiculous, gluttonous, and delirious with something like love with no healthy outlet.
