A 21-year-old hiker collapsed while descending Lion’s Head. She started feeling unwell after reaching the summit and rested on a bench. Unable to proceed further, Metro Police/ Law Enforcement drove her down the trail where a medical team assessed her. Her friends drove her home, once the medical team gave the all-clear.

The second incident was a hiker in her forties who ‘stumbled and sprained her ankle while hiking up Platteklip Gorge.’ She was assisted down the mountain by the rescue team who were dispatched to her location.

Athletes notified WSAR members of a third hiker who had injured his ankle while carrying his dog at the junction of India Venster and the Contour Path. The rescue team carried the 29-year-old down the trail to the road where his friends drove him to the hospital.

The last incident involved a 26-year-old hiker who injured her ankle while walking down Platteklip Gorge. Event organisers contacted the rescue team, who hiked to her location and supported her down the trail.
