A fresh glass of lemonade is a summertime staple for our family and what better than to make it homemade?

If you’ve already made my Wild Violet Syrup recipe then you’re in luck, and if not, it’s pretty simple and you can skip the long wait times if you’re in a pinch.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 2-3 tbsp. freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2-3 tbsp. wild violet syrup
  • Dash of salt

The fresh wild violet syrup is the special ingredient that will make this lemonade pink, once mixed with the lemon juice of course. This is a fun ‘food science’ experiment for youngsters and is a great alternative to the excessive sugar content of store-bought pink lemonade.

Instructions

To achieve the full ‘food science’ effect of this recipe, add the ingredients in this order. The mix will start as a vibrant purple before changing to a magenta or hot pink color and finally fading to a pleasant baby pink.

  1. Add the wild violet syrup to your glass. A clear vessel works best to see the dramatic color changes.
  2. Next, cut the very tip of a lemon before inserting a butter knife into it to damage the fruit within. Squeeze 2-3 tablespoons of juice into the syrup and gently swirl to combine. The mix will turn a hot pink shade.
  3. Add just a dash of salt to both accentuate the sweetness as well as replenish your electrolytes!
  4. Add water and ice before enjoying!
