Working in a place where you have to constantly ensure that you are being paid fairly for the work you are doing can be a challenging and frustrating experience. Unfortunately, in many workplaces, pay discrepancies and unfair compensation are all too common, which can lead to feelings of resentment, demotivation, and a lack of job satisfaction.
Recently, a worker posted a viral Tiktok on this very subject. Tiktok user Kris, (@krisdrinkslemonade), made a reenactment of a real phone call he had with his boss about work performance.
In the skit of a former call, his boss tells him, “discuss the difference in your performance between last year and 2020.” She goes on to say that since being a top performer in 2020, his performance has begun to slip.
This is where the video took a turn. Instead of defending his work and denying any slippage, Kris took another route. He simply explained that after being denied a raise for 2 years his work reflects the wage he is paid.
“At that point, I just decided I’m going to come a fair market value employee and put in a below average amount of effort because that’s what I feel like you pay me to do.”
