Former President Donald Trump has been indicted for a second time. On June 8, 2023, the businessman and 2024 presidential candidate was indicted on seven counts in a special counsel classified documents probe — marking the first time a former president has faced federal charges. His attorney confirmed the onetime reality TV star is facing a charge under the Espionage Act on top of charges of obstruction of justice, destruction or falsification of records, conspiracy and false statements all related to a months-long investigation into his alleged improper retention and illegal handling of classified documents that he took to his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida. He’s due in court in Miami on June 13.

The indictment comes less than two months after Trump was indicted in connection with an alleged hush money payments scheme involving adult film star Stormy Daniels that allegedly went down before the 2016 presidential election. The ex-POTUS — the first former president to face criminal charges — has pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records and conspiracy in that case.

“This election will be a referendum on Trump’s guilt or innocence,” Meghan McCain wrote in part in her lengthy June 9, 2023, DailyMail.com column about Donald Trump’s indictment. “If this reported seven count federal indictment against Trump does not reveal a crime so shocking that it unites Americans in universal condemnation of him, then I fear there may be no coming back.”

Meghan also wrote, “undoubtedly, the ex-president has behaved atrociously. We know that he was storing sensitive documents in his home — he shouldn’t have. He lamely attempted to explain away the issue by claiming that he can declassify documents with the wave of his hand — he can’t. His lawyer misled federal authorities, who came looking to recover the information — they shouldn’t have lied. But if that is the extent of the wrongdoing then the Justice Department will have recklessly swerved outside of the lines of any reasonable application of justice.”

“The weaponization of federal law enforcement represents a mortal threat to a free society. We have for years witnessed an uneven application of the law depending upon political affiliation. Why so zealous in pursuing Trump yet so passive about Hillary or Hunter? The DeSantis administration will bring accountability to the DOJ, excise political bias and end weaponization once and for all.” —Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who’s challenging Donald Trump for the Republican nomination in the 2023 presidential race

“Trump is going to be indicted for stealing classified documents. He is going crazy with his tweets urging his cult to “FIGHT.” We remember what happened on January 6th. ‘The strong are quiet, the weak start riots.’ – Rapper Memphis Bleek” —Barbra Streisand

“Don’t kid yourself, If Biden’s corrupt DOJ is allowed to succeed in their attempt to interfere in the election, the Dems will run this playbook over and over and over again every time against every other Republican,” Donald Trump Jr. tweeted. He also tweeted that “This is revenge from the Deep State. They’re willing to engage in historic election interference and will burn our norms and Constitution to shreds to try to stop Trump from winning the Presidency again. They know he is the only real threat to their power.”

“It’s called election interference — they’re trying to destroy our reputation so they can win an election. That’s just as bad as doing any of the other things that have been done over the last number of years. I’m an innocent man. I did nothing wrong, I’m innocent and we will prove that very very soundly and hopefully very quickly,” Donald Trump said, in part, in a video post on his Truth Social social media platform on June 8, 2023.

Following the news of his indictment, he also told Fox News Digital, “This is the most corrupt administration in history — there has never been an administration so corrupt, and they’re just starting to find it right now. They are trying to deflect all of their dishonesty by bringing this ridiculous boxes hoax case. They’re not going to get away with it. I did absolutely nothing wrong,” he added, citing the Presidential Records Act, saying it “makes me totally innocent.”

“This is the most important job in the world, the most important seat in the world. Only the best in this country should occupy it. Only someone duly elected by ‘We the People.’ Only someone with the highest integrity. Only someone who cares about all of us. Only someone who speaks intelligently and elegantly,” Maria Shriver tweeted alongside images of the Oval Office, adding, “We should never have someone in this office who ridicules people, who incites people, or who bullies people. I know everyone is innocent until proven guilty in this country, but we the people deserve someone whose innocence isn’t in question! #TrumpIndictment.”

“Clinton gets impeached for lying about a sexual encounter. Republicans scream… ‘Lock him up!!’ Trump is indicted or about to be indicted for: Espionage. Conspiracy. Obstruction. Tax evasion. Wire fraud. Insurrection. Sedition. Sexual assault. And… also trying to steal an election. Republicans say… ‘I’m still voting for him!!'” –Billy Baldwin

“Let’s stop all the talk of this being a dark day. This s the first bright day -in years,” John Cusack tweeted, later adding, “It’s not a sad night for the country. What was sad was The atrocities of Vietnam that went unpunished, Central America being turned into a mass graveyard During Regan years, The war crimes of bush cheney – attaching the Middle East climate terrorists. Today – a criminal scumbag – rightly faces the possibility of dying in prison – Where he belongs.”

“Today is indeed a dark day for the United States of America. It is unconscionable for a President to indict the leading candidate opposing him. Joe Biden kept classified documents for decades. I, and every American who believes in the rule of law, stand with President Trump against this grave injustice. House Republicans will hold this brazen weaponization of power accountable.” –U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy

“Scrolling TV today something jump right out, one is The Donald, waving what is supposedly secret documents and even admitting that they weren’t declassified. I don’t know if it was bluster or not. All I know is that cannot help him. I’m gonna share some advice from the greatest legal minds of our generation, of my lifetime… the one thing they all told me and stressed to me is do not talk about the case publicly. Do not do interviews about the case.  I don’t know if Donald’s lawyers are stressing this to him. If they’re not, he should fire them and sue them.” —O.J. Simpson

“Oops you did it again. You got indicted and just last week you were mocking Joe Biden because he fell down. You couldn’t help yourself. I bet Joe didn’t fall down tonight. I bet Joe was doing backflips, doing cartwheels, doing somersaults when he found out that you got indicted again.” —Michael Rapaport

“The Trump indictment is shameful & disgraceful. In over two centuries of our nation’s history, no new president has ever launched the entire machinery of justice on a vendetta to persecute, attack, investigate, indict, & jail the former president.” —Ted Cruz

“This is the time to stand with President Trump and be as committed to America First as ever. Don’t surrender to the intimidation because that’s exactly what the swamp wants. And no matter what dirty tricks they try to pull next, Donald Trump will never stop fighting for you.” –Kimberly Guilfoyle

“In the frivolous $500 million dollar lawsuit brought against me by Donald, who has been noticed to appear for deposition on Tuesday, what’s the chance he will stop by my Miami lawyers to be deposed and then head to the court at 3pm for the indictment? #Indictment2” –Michael Cohen
