We here at Mattel stand in solidarity with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA, and that’s why we are proud to introduce our newest toy: Strike Captain Barbie!
As writers, actors, and members of Hollywood fight for a living wage, benefits, and suitable working conditions, we painstakingly searched for a way to support the strike that would help their cause and more importantly, help ourselves. And so we monetized it by making Barbie a strike captain!
Strike Captain Barbie can be found either at the Sony or Fox lots because those are the easiest commute from her Malibu home. She comes with heeled ankle boots sensible for walking, ample sun protection, a 2023 strike t-shirt (also available online in kids and adult sizes), and a fervent rage against the CEOs making millions of dollars and the studios doing billions-in-revenue who are refusing to negotiate or even come to the table with a fair deal.
She also comes with a blank strike sign, so you can personalize your Barbie to strike against your preferred studio or executive! Example: “Over 60 years and I’m Still Paying Off My Malibu Beach House”.
Barbie is a leader of the labor rights movement in the manufacturing and entertainment industries so this was a no-brainer for us to approve in the C-suite. She is pro-union and pro-worker’s rights — as a woman who has held over 200 jobs, how could she not be? …Unlike many Hollywood CEOs who are male and have only one.
We at Mattel love how expansive Barbie’s professional career has been over the last 60-plus years. She has been a wildlife conservationist, UNICEF ambassador, chef, ballerina, blonde teacher, baby doctor, beekeeper, cat burglar, various Olympic athletes, a Presidential candidate, and she has served in every branch of the United States Military. Barbie knows a good healthcare plan when she sees one, and the AMPTP isn’t promising one right now, so she’s leading the charge on behalf of 10,000 members of the WGA and 160,000 members of SAG-AFTRA until they get one.
