Wikipedia is an excellent resource for finding other sources of information, but it’s probably best if not used as a primary source in academic research. This is because anyone can edit Wikipedia articles, and “vandals” may log in to mess with the information. Oftentimes, hilariously.
“Wikipedia vandalism” is a term used to describe the act of maliciously editing or defacing a Wikipedia page. To prevent this from happening, some pages have been protected by administrators. Despite this, it is still possible for someone to vandalize a Wikipedia page, as anyone is allowed to edit the website.
Thanks to the efforts of those who took screenshots and the website’s version history feature, instances of Wikipedia vandalism can be documented and preserved.
While Wikipedia vandalism is not encouraged, sometimes it is pretty funny. Here are some of the funniest examples.
