I don’t care about this news story, which is why I left that comment online. You probably saw it–

Who cares? I said.

Yeah, that’s right. I went there.

Even though I could’ve continued scrolling and immediately forgotten about this news story that I don’t care about — even though it took thought and tenacity for me to press forward — I persevered. Because the world needs my perspective. Specifically, that I don’t care.

Obviously, I’m not saying that no one cares about this story. Clearly, some people do. If not for them, then the news org wouldn’t try to sell the piece as “hard hitting” in the first place. But to contextualize the people who do care — they are idiots. Just like the news org. Scientists and leading psychologists all agree.

I am a scientist and leading psychologist, which are actually states of mind.

In the past, I’ve commented on other news stories, using different verbiage. You may remember my greatest hits like, Why is this news? and Do you people have nothing better to do with your time than read trash? Sometimes people comment back and ask questions like, “Did you read the article?” Uhhh, no, I DID NOT. Did you understand what I wrote? As made clear by my comment, reading beyond the headline would’ve been a waste of my time. Whereas talking about the article at length without reading it is productive.

Some call my appearances in the comments section humanitarian work. Others say it’s heroism. I don’t know. I don’t care.

If we were talking in real life, and you brought up this particular news story, I’d cut you off. I’d hold up my hand and say, “Who cares?” just like I wrote in the comments. If I heard two people on the street discussing the subject, I’d break into their conversation. “WHY DOES IT EVEN MATTER?” I’d say, falling to my knees. I could not go on in a world where they might think that I, a passerby, care about this topic.

If only we all treated each other in real life the way we treat each other on the internet.

Who cares? Words that are so bold. So pithy. So brave.

A great constitutional lawyer might explain it this way: “If we do not loudly and abruptly express our apathy on any given story, then people will reasonably interpret silence as caring.”

I am a constitutional lawyer, which is another state of mind.

So–yeah. Just so you know, I don’t care about this subject. At. All. I know that’s hard to grasp, but there it is. You may wonder how I developed the fortitude to express myself so plainly. On that point, I hardly know. Maybe it’s incredible genetics? Maybe it’s the loving support of an also not-caring community? What I can tell you is, I need to be my real, unfiltered self every second of the day. It’s important that I inject myself into conversations where I care about the subject matter. And into conversations where I don’t give half a fart.

By the way, I don’t care about this story. In case that’s not clear. Have a good day.
