Busted
Gigi Hadid is not exactly a model citizen. The runway model and a pal were arrested in the Cayman Islands last week after customs officers found marijuana in their luggage, The Cayman Island newspaper Cayman Mal Road reported. The report said Gigi and a friend flew private from the United States to Owen Roberts International Airport on July 10. The women were detained after a scan found their luggage contained a small amount of marijuana and “utensils used for the consumption of ganja.” Gigi and her friend were both released on bail and pleaded guilty to marijuana possession in Summary Court two days after the arrest. They were fined $1,000. Gigi’s rep told ET, “Gigi was traveling with marijuana purchased legally in New York City with a medical license. It has also been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017. Her record remains clear and she enjoyed the rest of her time on the island.”

Couple’s therapy caveat
Following a string of consecutive films, Matt Damon told his wife during couple’s therapy that he would take a break… but with one string attached. “This is going to sound made up, but it’s actually true. I had — not to get too personal — negotiated extensively with my wife that I was taking time off,” he said during an “Around the Table” discussion with Entertainment Weekly. “I had been in ‘Interstellar,’ and then [Director Chris Nolan] put me on ice for a couple of movies, so I wasn’t in the rotation, but I actually negotiated in couples therapy — this is a true story — the one caveat to my taking time off was if Chris Nolan called. This is without knowing whether or not he was working on anything, because he never tells you. He just calls you out of the blue.” That’s exactly what happened. Not long after the therapy discussion, Chris asked Matt to be in his World War II-era drama “Oppenheimer.” Thinking back to that phone call, Matt said, “It was a moment in my household.”

Fallout from ‘scolding’
One of the women who Miranda Lambert scolded during a recent concert is speaking out, and she feels that the singer overreacted. “It felt like I was back at school with the teacher scolding me for doing something wrong and telling me to sit down back in my place,” Adela Calin told NBC News. “I feel like she was determined to make us look like we were young, immature and vain. But we were just grown women in our 30s to 60s trying to take a picture.” Although she claimed the picture taking lasted “30 seconds at most,” video of the incident shows that Adela and her pals taking multiple photos during Miranda’s set. In the immediate aftermath of the on-stage scolding, many social media user felt the country singer was out of line. More people are now sympathetic to Miranda after seeing the quasi photo shoot that was taking place during her “Tin Man” performance.
Downside of fame
Fame was a hard thing for Michael Cera to grasp. The actor contemplated quitting acting after starring in “Superbad” and “Juno,” which saw his profile increase dramatically. “That was sort of overwhelming,” he told The Guardian. “I didn’t know how to handle walking down the street. Fame makes you very uncomfortable in your own skin, and makes you paranoid and weird.” He added, “There were lots of great things about it, and I met a lot of amazing people, but there’s a lot of bad energies, too, ones that I was not equipped to handle.” His performance in “Superbad” — which he filmed when he was 19 years old — seemed to particularly resonate with “drunk people.” “You know, if people are drunk, and they recognize you, and they’re very enthusiastic, but it can be kind of toxic too,” he said, claiming movie fans would often want to touch him. “When you’re a kid, people also feel they can kind of grab you — they’re not that respectful of you or your physical space. I didn’t know how to respectfully establish my own boundaries.” As a way of not getting more famous, he even refused to star in big budget films. “I was kind of having a bit of a crisis … I was really not enjoying the level of heat,” he said. “I really didn’t know if I was going to keep being an actor.”
Divorce woes
It’s been a month since Dean McDermott announced that he and Tori Spelling were divorcing, and she’s more defiant than ever. On Monday, July 17, the “Beverly Hills 90210” actress was approached by a photographer who asked if she was blindsided by her ex’s Instagram post. “I’ve always looked better on my own,” she said. The paparazzi tried to dig deeper, but Tori stayed mostly mum. However, the photographer then pivoted to ask Tori about her recent post-split motel stay. “Why were you staying in a cheap motel?” he asked. She quickly shot back, “Are you a parent? You know you will do whatever you can for your kids, right?” According to TMZ, Tori and her children stayed in a motel because their home was infested with mold.
Fire hero
Jerry O’Connell is being applauded for his heroic actions. On Sunday, July 16, the actor was driving in Malibu, Calif., when a food truck erupted into flames. TMZ said the actor stopped his car and jumped into action just as Sheriff’s deputies pulled a man out of the ablaze catering vehicle. While the field around the food truck burned, Jerry noticed a nearby propane tank and quickly moved it away from the fire — a dangerous risk, as another propane tank was already on fire. In addition, the “Stand By Me” star also reportedly scaled a fence to get a fire extinguisher. Wearing nothing but shorts and a t-shirt, Jerry helped doused the flames until firefighters showed up.
