Austrian village, Hallstatt, has erected a temporary wooden fence in an attempt to discourage tourists from taking selfies.

CNN describes ‘Hallstatt’s snow-capped mountains, chocolate-box architecture, and crystalline waters’ as being ‘catnip to tourists.’ The UNESCO-protected village, with only 800 inhabitants, can attract more than 10 000 tourists daily.

A Hallstatt tourism board representative said in 2020 that they would like to ‘focus on quality tourism in the future.’ The fence is one of the pilot projects in a number of measures that the village plans on trying out.
