Follow the buzz to Hope, British Columbia Jarastyle travel

Located at the junction of the Fraser and Coquihalla Rivers, Hope is a small mountain town two hours from Vancouver, British Columbia. Known for beautiful nature views and charming locally owned gift shops, Hope is also home to over 80 chainsaw carvings. Many of the carvings on display feature local wildlife such as bears and eagles, or human characters such cyclists, prospectors, and even John Rambo from the 1982 film First Blood, the majority of which was filmed in the community.

Every two years, volunteer-run organization Hope Communities in Bloom hosts the World-Class Chainsaw Carving Event in Hope’s downtown Memorial Park. This year’s event runs from August 17-20 and is free to attend. In addition to watching 15 carvers from around the world flexing their artistic muscles, local art and food vendors are set up on site, and you can bid for a carving of your very own at the Speed Carving Auctions.

For more information about the competition, as well as places to stay and things to do in and around the Hope area, visit tourismhcc.ca. The competition can also be found on Facebook at @HopeChainsawCarving.
