Community Crime Prevention’s control room received multiple Buzzer alerts yesterday afternoon at 14:13 informing it that a caracal had been hit by a motor vehicle at the top of Suikerbossie near Llandudno and was still alive but injured and lying on the road.

Its responders rushed to the scene, along with Grant Spooner from Marine Scene and SAPS, and transported it to Hout Bay Vet.

The injured wild cat was later transferred to the specialised wildlife unit of the Cape of Good Hope SPCA, which is better equipped to treat wild animals. Unfortunately, one of its legs has been badly broken, among other injuries; however, according to the Urban Caracal Project in Cape Town, South Africa, it is expected to recover completely.

It will be released back into the same area once it has healed.

This incident follows the death last week of Hermes, another beloved caracal who was frequently spotted in and around the City Bowl. Hermes was killed by a motor vehicle on Philip Kgosana Drive in the early hours of the morning.

Community Crime Prevention urged drivers to be cautious of wildlife while driving, especially at night and when it is raining.
