‘Outcast’ concerns and body dysmorphia

Despite landing on the cover of the 2023 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue, Megan Fox says she’s never loved her own body. “I have body dysmorphia. I don’t ever see myself the way other people see me,” the actress, 37, explained. “There’s never a point in my life where I loved my body, never, ever.” Megan went on to recall having “an obsession” about what she “should” look like as a little girl. “And why I had an awareness of my body that young I’m not sure, and it definitely wasn’t environmental because I grew up in a very religious environment where bodies weren’t even acknowledged,” she added. The Mayo Clinic defines body dysmorphic disorder as “a mental health condition in which you can’t stop thinking about one or more perceived defects or flaws in your appearance — a flaw that appears minor or can’t be seen by others.”

Speaking to SI, Megan admitted she felt “a lot of pressure” about the SI shoot and said she suspects “the journey of loving myself is going to be never-ending.” Elsewhere in the interview, she said what she most wants people to see in her is, as she put it, “that I’m a genuine soul who is hoping to actually belong to something and not always have to live as a misunderstood outcast.” The “Transformers” star is featured on one of four covers for the 2023 edition, along with Martha Stewart, Kim Petras and Brooks Nader.

Estate settlement reached

Lisa Marie Presley’s famous family members are no longer battling to control her estate in the wake of her untimely death. At a court hearing in Los Angeles on Tuesday, May 16, lawyers for Lisa Marie’s mother, Priscilla Presley, and daughter, Riley Keough, said the warring stars had reached a settlement regarding who will control Lisa Marie’s trust, according to CNN. “The families are happy. Everyone is happy, unified, together and excited for the future,” said Priscilla’s attorney, Ronson J. Shamoun, outside the courtroom. A lawyer for Riley said the “Daisy Jones & the Six” star “is very content” with the outcome.

The dispute began when Priscilla formally disputed an amendment her late daughter made to her trust in 2016, removing Priscilla as a co-trustee and naming her children, Riley and Benjamin Keough. Benjamin died in 2020, leaving only Riley as the named heir. In documents challenging the amendment’s validity, Priscilla reportedly cited odd details including a misspelling of her name and a signature that she said was “inconsistent” with her late daughter’s usual signature. The trust may be worth more than $30 million, according to reports. The family has not revealed further details about the settlement arrangement, but TMZ reported Tuesday that Lisa Marie’s estate “paid an undisclosed sum of money to Priscilla to settle the dispute.” Lisa Marie died in January 2023 after a brief hospitalization. She was 54.

Studio date night?

Buzz around Taylor Swift’s rumored new romance with The 1975’s Matty Healy shows no signs of slowing down this week, after the the two were photographed leaving the historic Electric Lady Studios in New York City on Monday, May 15. Taylor, who recently split from her boyfriend of six years, Joe Alwyn, had performed in Philadelphia over the weekend, as Matty watched from a VIP section with her dad, according to People. Though it’s unclear if the would-be couple were recording together or just hanging out at the music studio, they were joined by music stars including Kendrick Lamar, Florence Welch and Taylor’s frequent collaborator and producer pal, Jack Antonoff. A possible collaboration wouldn’t be too surprising, given Matty and Taylor have both performed as surprise guests at one another’s shows in recent months. “Taylor is happy,” a source recently told People. “She’s very focused on her tour but is enjoying hanging out with Matty when she is off.”

Kim talks Kourtney feud

Kim Kardashian and all her sisters have aired countless details about the tension that often bubbles up between them, but Kim’s feud with Kourtney Kardashian is taking centerstage ahead of the Season 3 premiere of “The Kardashians.” During an appearance on “Today” on Tuesday, May 16, Kim called the season the most “emotional” one the family’s ever shot. Asked if she was referring to her issues with Kourtney, the Hulu star told Savannah Guthrie, “We’ve been there before, and we’ll always be OK.”

Savannah’s question came on the heels of a new teaser out this week, which shows the sisters engaged in a massive argument, with Kourtney accusing Kim of having “no boundaries” or “respect.” A previous teaser showed Kourtney claiming Kim “used my wedding as a business opportunity,” which Kim denied.

On “Today,” Kim continued: “We’re always family. That’s how we were raised,” then shared new insights on how some of the rifts and fights can fester over time. “You film it, we think we’re good, and we make up, then you edit it, and I’m seeing all the things she’s saying behind my back and she’s saying all the things I’m saying behind her back, and the tension rises all over again,” she said. “It gets really tricky, and it gets really emotional. But at the end of the day, we still love sharing our life.” Season 3 of “The Kardashians” hits Hulu on May 25.

Cannes backlash

Johnny Depp hit the red carpet at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France, on Tuesday, May 16, as his new film, “Jeanne Du Barry,” opened the festivities one year after the actor won his high-profile defamation suit against ex-wife, Amber Heard. Johnny’s appearance — and the featured slot his movie was given — was already generating a mix of support and criticism days before the premiere, though. Over the weekend, Amber’s friend, journalist Eve Barlow, called out the festival on Instagram, sharing a photo of Johnny and the text, “Cannes seem proud of their history supporting rapists and abusers. Plus ça change. #CannesYouNot.” On another protest post, Eve wrote, “‘Jeanne Du Barry’ Representing Abusers at Cannes,” while a third showed photos of Harvey Weinstein, Woody Allen and other stars who’ve been accused of sexual assault and harassment posing at Cannes. “Why Does Cannes Platform Predators?” Eve wrote in that caption. Her posts followed the publication of an open letter in which actor Adele Haenel raised similar complaints.

On Monday, Cannes Film Festival head Thierry Fremaux weighed in on the backlash while speaking to press. “I don’t know about the image of Johnny Depp in the U.S. To tell you the truth, in my life, I only have one rule, it’s the freedom of thinking and the freedom of speech and acting within a legal framework,” he told Variety. He added that Johnny was never “banned” from acting or making movies and said, “If there’s one person in this world who didn’t find the least interest in this very publicized trial, it’s me. I don’t know what it’s about. I also care about Johnny Depp as an actor.”

Johnny has long denied Amber’s claims he abused her. In 2022, he won the defamation suit he brought against Amber stemming from her 2018 op-ed on domestic abuse.

Goodbye, ‘Rust’

Alec Baldwin wrapped filming his indie-Western “Rust” this week with a celebratory shave. “God, it felt good to shave off that beard…,” he captioned a selfie on Instagram on Monday, May 15. Earlier in the day, he shared a handful of photos from his last day on the Livingston, Montana, set, where filming was completed following the fatal 2021 shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, on the movie’s original set in New Mexico. One photo showed Alec filming on horseback with his young co-star, Patrick Scott McDermott. “Last day on the set of RUST with this guy. A very talented actor and lovely young man with a bright future ahead,” Alec wrote. Another image showed a stunning sunset with the caption, “Last day working in Paradise Valley. Thank you, Livingston MT.”

Alec was in Montana completing the film in April when the Santa Fe County District Attorney’s office said it was dropping the involuntary manslaughter charges it previously brought against the actor, who was holding the gun that killed Halyna and injured director Joel Souza, despite a rule banning live ammunition from the set. Variety reported in April that New Mexico was still pursuing manslaughter charges against original “Rust” armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed, who reportedly loaded the gun.

Hope health update

Hoda Kotb says her 3-year-old daughter still has “a longer road” to recovery from the medical complication that sent her to the ICU for more than a week earlier this year. “Hope’s doing much better, much better,” the “Today” star told People at the Webby Awards in New York City on Monday, May 15. “I think it’s going to be a longer road, but she is doing great.” As many fans know, Hoda took weeks off “Today with Hoda & Jenna,” beginning in February. Once she returned to the air, she explained that her daughter, Hope, had been hospitalized but was back home. Hope “is a happy child which is the most important thing to me,” she told People on Monday. She also praised her older daughter, Haley, 6, for being “a really supportive big sister” to her younger sibling.

“We have figured out kind of a rhythm and life throws all kinds of curve balls at you and it’s sort of like what do you do with it, and it’s funny because no matter what you go through if you look over to the left or over to the right, someone else is going through something much more difficult,” Hoda concluded. “So we say count our blessings, let’s move forward, let’s have a real fun summer, and let’s just keep it rolling.” The “Today” star has not publicly disclosed Hope’s diagnosis.
