What better time of year to plan a wine country adventure? But, where to begin? The “gap” in the south foothills of Yakima is the gateway to Yakima Valley wine country. Treveri Cellars – 5-minute drive
Washington’s founding sparkling wine house has earned acclaim and awards for producing some of the finest sparkling wines in the U.S. Perched on a hill, enjoy sweeping views of the valley and mountains while you sip on their lovely patio or vast lawn. During the summer, they pour delicious sorbet glace sparkling cocktails in addition to their regular lineup of sparkling wines. Their full menu features an array of boards and platters, flatbreads, paninis, salads and a savory bratwurst that reflects the founders’ German heritage. They also host brunch every Sunday.
Owen Roe Winery – 7-minute drive
Roughly a half mile from Treveri Cellars, Owen Roe Winery is known for crafting exceptional, award-winning wines with grapes sourced from superior sites. When you visit Owen Roe, you’ll find yourself tasting right in the production facility, surrounded by wine barrels. Freehand Cellars – 10-minute drive
Panoramic views of the valley and mountains, an architecturally stunning tasting room, beautiful covered deck and expansive lawn make Freehand Cellars an ideal summer stop. It’s one of the newer additions to Yakima Valley Wine Country but has quickly become a favorite. Their exceptional wines are unique in that each is a single varietal wine (no blends). Their menu offers a variety of shared dips and spreads, as well as chicken skewers and flatbreads, toasted artisan bread with herbed olive oil dip and seasonal specialties such as local Peach Caprese drizzled with balsamic glaze, house-made spicy apricot with whipped goat cheese or their local, farm-fresh cold charred pea salad.
