Tipping has long been ingrained in many cultures as a way to show appreciation for service received. However, the practice of tipping has increasingly come under scrutiny, with a growing movement advocating for its abolition in favor of fair and equitable wages for service workers. The call for change highlights the inherent flaws of a system that places the burden of income on customers rather than on employers.
But who is going to step up to the plate and pay these servers a living wage, freeing them from the dependance on generosity from others? Trey Parker and Matt Stone, that’s who.

After featuring the Lakewood, Colorado Mexica restaurant in their show, they eventually bought it in 2021. After a long renovation process, have now reopened their doors.

The policy at Casa Bonita is a strict “no tipping.” This is because the restaurant pays $30 an hour, more than double Colorado’s minimum wage of $13.65.

However, not everyone is thrilled about this move. Servers who already were employed by Casa Bonita were told they could sign new contracts agreeing to the $30/hr pay with no tips, or they could quit.
