I definitely wasn’t wide awake all night running through the to-do lists in my head.

Hi hi! Come on in. Welcome to my very casual easy-breezy dinner party! I am so excited you’re here! I am not at all stressed about having you over. I am definitely not feeling any pressure to be the most perfect host. Dinner parties are the best, aren’t they? And I love having them!
You might not know this about me since I usually come to your place and haven’t invited you to my condo in years, but that’s not because I don’t love hosting. Nothing makes me happier than having people over! I love hosting so much that I do it as rarely as possible to keep it feeling special.
Would you like a drink? You like cocktails, right? I have ice! I don’t normally have ice, but I bought an ice tray just in case you wanted a drink with ice in it. I prefer my beverages at room temperature, but I made ice just for you, my dinner guests. Do you want your ice in a specific shape? I got the novelty cat-shaped kind but I can carve it into a cube if you’d like!
Does ice go bad? I made it a month ago in anticipation of you all coming over tonight.
I just love hosting, I really do. I don’t feel anxious at all. I definitely wasn’t wide awake all night running through the to-do lists in my head: all the things I need to buy and prep, various piles of junk I need to stuff under various pieces of furniture, the dusting I need to do, and possibly should be doing regularly, the embarrassing creams I need to hide in the bathroom…oh, did I hide all the creams? Excuse me for a minute.
Planning a dinner party is so fun and not stressful for me at all! I absolutely haven’t spent weeks agonizing over the menu and compiling a playlist. Speaking of the playlist, shall I turn on some music? How about bossa nova? Does bossa nova make you hungry? I definitely didn’t google “what kind of music makes people hungry.”
I’ve been beyond myself about this dinner party! Oh, I know, I know. It’s not really a “party” with three people but it feels like a party.
Let me dim the lights, you must be blinded by the brightness in here. Is it too dim now? Can you see me? Do you want to see me? It might be more fun without me… Oooh, maybe some candles? Yes, that’s exactly what this night has been missing–candles! Hosting is the best, I just love all the little details that go into planning a perfect evening like tonight.
Oh, can one of you hand me the fire extinguisher, the fancy silk napkins I bought seem to be extra-flammable, haha, that wasn’t mentioned in the reviews!
Full disclosure, I wanted to make sure to spend quality time with you, my lovely guests, and not be stuck in the kitchen all night long. So I picked up some delicious freshly made pasta from the restaurant next door that I just need to boil. They’re renowned for their pasta. And, like, I know how to boil water and cook pasta, right?
Oh, that’s a rhetorical question, I am not really asking! I’m just letting you know that this delicious pasta and sauce are homemade, not by me, but by a famous chef. I forget her name, but it’s very gourmet. You can’t even get a reservation there. Maybe we should swing by next door in case they have a last-minute cancellation? Just kidding! I love having you here in my condo and cooking for you! My heart rate is definitely not up and my Apple watch is not beeping frantically. I’ll just take it off actually, technology can be so distracting.
Are you having fun? Isn’t this fun? Is bossa nova hitting the spot? Shall we have a little dance party to stimulate your appetite? How’s that cat-shaped ice treating you?
Oh yes, I should boil the pasta now, haha, you’re so right! You are here for dinner after all and it’s getting late! I definitely know how to cook this fancy homemade pasta, and I don’t feel the pressure of making you the most amazing dinner you’ve ever had. It’s the same as regular pasta, right? Wait, is it? Why are the sauce instructions talking about “a tablespoon of starchy water”? What am I supposed to do with the starchy water? What even is starchy water?
This feels like a lot. Should we just go to your place?
