It’s pretty wild that employers are even still trying to force people back into the office after years of proving that we can all do our jobs well enough from home, but they sure are!

From not facing a daily commute to Zooming in your PJs, working from home has been a huge help to the employees, but it’s also saving companies money on physical locations. And honestly, if I had to leave my dog, I’d be so dang sad!

Recently, Twitter user “D” wrote about his new manager that wanted to force them all back into the office. The employees resigned en masse in response and Twitter had lots of stories to share.

11. Smoke and mirrors

For many managers, their job is smoke and mirrors. It’s the big office, being at the head of the table for meetings, strutting the halls in expensive suits. It’s how they dominate. Remote work erased all of that and they can’t adjust.

12. Just trust us

The pandemic proved that the vast majority of people do not need to be in an office working. But employers want their workers there so they can keep an eye on them. Hard to fire or scare someone when they are doing quality work from home.

13. Chill

I can’t stand an ole “let me come disrupt the whole flow” ass manager. Baby you’re one person, we can show you better than we can tell you it’s not happening

14. It’s just not necessary

My company’s always been virtual (going on 14 years). When we feel we *need* face-time (beyond Slack, Zoom) we schedule an in-person meeting. There, fixed it.

Needing a team to be with you 5 days/wk just tells me the manager sucks at managing.

15. Cleaning house

He’s not doing this without support from the top. Keep in mind that in some cases these kind of people are hired to clean house ahead of a major restructuring.

16. It’s the worst

i currently go in 2-3 times a month and those days are chaotic! starts with a hr drive in then loud background noise from staff convos and phone calls and every 20min someone walking by my office w question/problem or just wanting to catch up. then i still gotta drive a hr home.

17. Projection

Often this is an issue with projection. The manager knows he doesn’t work well from home, so he assumes everyone is having the same problem. Making all your people work from the same room is not the perfect solution to improve productivity.

18. Market is hot

The job market is really hot for remote work. Elon Musk is forcing employees to return to Tesla / SpaceX. 🤦‍♀️ Update your resume and LinkedIn and watch the interview offers come in. That’s been my past 3 weeks and so worth it.

19. Ages?

i wish everyone commenting here would divulge their ages – i feel like it’s the older generation who thinks working from home means laying around in your pajamas…

Some users are on the manager’s side though:
